For Players

New to Modded Among Us? Start here. These are the questions players usually ask first.

What is Modded Among Us?

Modded Among Us is not just impostors versus crewmates anymore. Games can include impostors, crewmates, coven roles, neutrals, and add-ons all in the same match.

Depending on the mod, you may also get access to mini-games like FFA.

The five big role groups to remember are Impostors, Crewmates, Neutrals, Coven, and Add-ons. That is why kills, votes, and suspicious behavior do not always mean the same thing they do in vanilla.

In modded Among Us, crew can kill too.

Do I need to install the mod to join a lobby?

For standard host-only lobbies, the host is the one who must have the mod installed. Players can usually join without installing the mod themselves.

However, some mods like Town of Us Mira may require players to install the mod too. Those can be installed on PC or Android with Starlight Launcher.

What is a modded region?

A modded region is a non-Innersloth region that helps mods run when the official anti-cheat breaks lobbies. If you are experiencing host errors like banned for hacking or repeated kicks and the issue is widespread, swapping to a modded region may be a good alternative.

Niko regions are commonly suggested for host-only mods like EHR or Project Lotus. More general modded regions are commonly suggested for client-required mods like Town of Us.

These regions can be installed on mobile, tablet, or PC.

How do I join a modded region on mobile?
  1. Open Among Us.
  2. Open mauq.xyz/servers or au.niko233.top.
  3. Pick the region your host is using, such as Niko NA or Niko EU.
  4. Tap it and let it open Among Us again.
  5. For good measure, go back to the link and tap your region one more time, then let it open Among Us again.
  6. Click Create a Game.
  7. Open the region selector and check if Niko regions are now listed.
  8. Select the correct region if it is there.
  9. Go back to the main screen and join the host's lobby.

How do I join a modded region on PC?

If you already have the mod installed, modded regions typically come along with the mod. If not, visit au.niko233.top and run the customserver.bat file.

Error or domain issue?

  • Delete MiniRegionInstall from BepInEx/plugins.
  • Download the custom server BAT file.
  • Launch the file.
  • Press the button it asks for.
  • Relaunch the game.
Which commands should I learn first?

These are the most useful basics for regular players:

  • /m or /cmd m to read your role and add-on details.
  • /r to list active roles, or /r [role] to read one role.
  • /id or /cmd id to see player IDs.
  • /kc or /cmd kc to see how many killers are still alive.
  • /death or /cmd d after death to see death information.
  • /w [ids] [message] for meeting whispers when your role allows it.

In meetings, use the /cmd prefix for guessing, whispering, judging, and other hidden role actions so you do not expose yourself in public chat.

How does guessing work?
  1. Use /cmd id to find the player's ID.
  2. In the meeting, use /cmd bt [ID] [RoleName].

Typically the mod will show a player's ID on their meeting card, but if it does not, you can run /id beforehand to get it.

Example: Sarha is Dictator and I am an impostor, so I want to remove her before she removes me. I would use /bt 0 dictator.

Modded clients also have a guesser UI in most mods that makes guessing easier, so check for that in meetings.

Why do I keep getting guessed?

There are a few reasons. Experienced players learn common role tells over time, especially when a newer player gives away what they are doing.

Even if you never say your role name out loud, people can infer it from system messages, how you ask questions, or what commands you use. Something like asking how to get a player's ID and then immediately using a meeting command can give you away.

If you need help, it is usually safer to run /m in game to learn your role, or ask whether guessing is on before you start doing obvious role-specific actions.

If your role color matches another visible player, you are often on the same team. Do not guess or kill teammates unless your instructions say otherwise.

You may also see icons next to someone's name. You can run /icons in game to check what they mean. In some cases you could be somebody's lawyer and need to protect them, or they could be an Executioner's target.

What if I die?

Do not leave. Some roles can still win after death, some ghost roles activate after death, and ghost chat is still useful. Leaving early can also make you miss role information that matters later.

A kill does not always mean evil. Crew killing roles like Sheriff, Vigilante, or Crusader can exist.
If your role and name color match another visible player, you are often on the same team. Do not guess or kill teammates unless your instructions say otherwise.
If you froze, black-screened, lost chat, or could not vote, it may be role-related rather than a normal game glitch.
Use /m in game before asking public role questions. It is one of the easiest ways to avoid getting guessed early.

For Hosts

These are the most common questions for hosts who use mods.

How do I update the mod normally?

Download the newest mod DLL and replace the old one in Among Us/BepInEx/plugins.

For example, with EHR test builds:

  1. Open BepInEx.
  2. Open plugins.
  3. Delete the old EHR.dll.
  4. Paste the new EHR.dll in.
What are good autohost settings?
  • Initial countdown: about 10 seconds.
  • Delay before entering: about 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Forced start: around 1.5 to 3.
  • Minutes before autostart: around 1.5 to 2.
  • Enable Autostart in the mod settings behind the gear icon.
  • If you plan to be AFK, do not forget to enable Game Master.
How do queue and code tools work in MAUQ?
  • /thread rename to rename a lobby thread.
  • /thread close to archive and lock a lobby post.
  • /code set to set the private code.
  • /queue toggle to turn queue on or off.
  • /queue next to ping the next players and send the code.
  • /queue remove to remove someone without pinging them.
  • /code remove then /code set to change the code.
  • /blacklist toggle (member) to add someone to the blacklist.

More advanced queue settings can be found on mauq.xyz.

What is the current known host ban or kick issue?

The current workarounds are:

  • Play with 9 or fewer users.
  • Stick to mini-games that do not have a kill button.
  • Use Niko regions as mentioned above.
How do I read logs when something breaks?

Use these tools before guessing at the problem:

Custom Tags

How does everyone have pretty names in Among Us? I want one too.

1

Create the tag

Go to moddedamong.us/tags, fill out the form, and download the generated .txt file. Make sure you enter your friend code.

2

Send it to the host

After downloading the file, send that .txt file to the lobby host.

3

Name it correctly

The host must make sure the filename exactly matches the player friend code, for example friendcode#1234.txt.

4

Place it in the data folder

Move the file into the mod user-data folder. For EHR, for example: EHR-Data > User-data > friendcode#1234.txt.

Custom tags are host- and mod-dependent, so exact setup can differ between mods.
The filename must match the friend code exactly or the tag may not load.
In EHR, hosts can also use /addtag and /deletetag, but that is separate from the file-based method above.

Common Support Topics

These are some of the most commonly asked support questions.

How do I downgrade Among Us for the mod?

Steam: open Among Us in Steam, go to Properties, then Betas, and choose public-previous.

After downgrading on Steam or Epic, you should delete %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Innersloth\Among Us\settings.amogus to avoid black screens.

If you use Steam, be sure to copy your newly downgraded Among Us files into the mod folder that you use.

I got kicked for domain mismatch. What do I do now?

Use au.niko233.top. Niko233.me now causes immediate kicks because of the domain migration check.

I am on a guest account and cannot join Niko servers.

Guest accounts are not supported. An account is required.

I have terrible connectivity or cross-region lag.

Try using Cloudflare WARP for stability.

I keep getting kicked as soon as I create a lobby.

When you click Create a Game, check how many players you have set and make sure it is 15 or under. You can also open a local lobby and check how many impostors you have set.

How do I install a mod on Linux?

Requirements: own Among Us on Steam and have some patience.

  1. Open Steam and go to your library, then select Among Us.
  2. Click the gear icon, choose Manage, then Browse Local Files.
  3. Download the mod you want for Steam.
  4. Unzip the mod files and paste them into the Among Us folder you opened.
  5. Open a terminal and run sudo apt update, sudo apt install pipx, then pipx ensurepath.
  6. Restart the terminal.
  7. Run pipx install protontricks.
  8. Launch Among Us once, wait for it to load, then close it.
  9. Run protontricks 945360 winhttp.
  10. Back in Steam, open Properties for Among Us.
  11. In General, set launch options to WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%.
  12. In Compatibility, force a specific Steam Play tool and choose Proton Experimental.
  13. Relaunch the game.

The first launch after setup can take 2 to 3 minutes.

Common Among Us error messages

Common errors and their usual causes:

  • Sent # pings that remote has not responded to: usually weak network connection. Try restarting your connection or moving to a stronger signal.
  • ReliablePacketWithoutResponse: often server traffic or unstable connection. Restarting can help.
  • Network is unreachable: usually weak internet, especially mobile data. Try Wi-Fi or stronger signal.
  • You are running an older version of the game: update or downgrade to the version the lobby is using.
  • Could not find the game you're looking for: the code may be wrong, the lobby may have closed, or the region may not match.
  • SteamworksAuthFail or AuthFail: Steam or the matching platform may not be open correctly in the background.
  • Bad Gateway or authentication errors: often server-side. Restarting can help, but sometimes you just have to wait.
  • Network Packet Loss or Reliable packet was not ack'd: usually unstable connection or region mismatch. Changing regions can help.
